Dr. Steven Knapp
Your Huntsville Orthodontist
You want to know more about ME?! Well, sheesh, I’m flattered. Thank you, Huntsville, for welcoming me, my family, and my staff. We moved here in 2022 and are excited to continue to serve y’all smiles to last a lifetime.
My education and professional history are first, but the funny stuff that’ll help you solidify your choice to pick us isn’t til later, so keep scrolling!
Education & Experience
Before I moved to the good ol’ state of Alabama, I attended dental school at Oregon Health & Sciences University in 2014. Here is where I completed a major research project on oral bacteria that took more hours than I’d like to admit. I hope someday that research will contribute to something bigger, or it may sit in a science journal collecting dust (sigh…).
After graduating dental school, my family and I relocated to Missouri, where I practiced as a general dentist. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to understand the mouth better as a whole and to provide care for patients who couldn’t receive or afford treatment elsewhere.
After our time in Missouri, we moved to Denver, Colorado, so I could attend the University of Colorado to specialize in Orthodontics. While there, I earned a Master of Science in Dentistry. During my training, I focused on braces and clear aligner treatment to help patients achieve the smile of their dreams.
As a kid, my dentist told me I didn’t need braces. I took that advice until orthodontic school, where I finally decided to get braces at 30 years old and experience it myself.
It was a fun experience, and I completely relate to a pokey wire or not wearing your rubber bands…something my patients would never do.
Outside of the Office
Don’t get distracted by all those years I spent in school studying teeth, I still make time to watch The Bachelor or The Bachelorette and make brackets based on who I think will win….oops, I mean fall in love.
When not preoccupied with reality TV, I may be reading an article about how to travel around the world on credit card points. Travel, specifically free travel from credit card points, has been an interest of mine for the last 10.5 years as a broke aspiring orthodontist.
Because of this hobby, my wife and I were able to backpack through Europe for two months before dental school, splitting a baguette as our one meal for the day and washing our clothes in the sink (sorry for the things you are imagining now).
Much of my family is from England and Spain, which is why my wife and I enjoy traveling — to experience new countries and cultures.
In fact, I spent four months living in India as an undergraduate student. If you know of any great places to eat Indian food or great restaurants to try, send them my way!
Me, my wife Whitney, and our three kids [Kenley (8), Crew (6), and Lyla (3) moved to Owens Cross Roads to plant roots in this wonderful community. After work, you might see us rushing off to the kids’ soccer games or at a park, obeying their wishes to push them infinitely higher on the swings.
In the summer, I love going to the beach with my family, hiking, ATVing, and camping. In the winter I enjoy skiing in the mountains.
Our team can’t wait to get to know you and help you achieve that perfect smile! Thanks for stopping by!
