Meet Dr. Steven Knapp

In 2014, Dr. Knapp attended dental school at OHSU, where I received numerous awards and grants. He also completed a major research project that took more hours than he'd like to admit.

After graduating, his family relocated to Missouri, where he practiced as a general dentist. It was a wonderful opportunity for Dr. Knapp to understand the mouth better as a whole and to provide care for patients who couldn’t receive or afford treatment elsewhere.

After his time in Missouri, Dr. Knapp's family moved to Denver, Colorado, so he could attend the University of Colorado to specialize in Orthodontics. While there, he also earned a Master of Science in Dentistry.

During his training, he focused on braces and clear aligner treatment to help patients achieve the smile of their dreams.

Why Choose an Orthodontist Over a Dentist?

While both orthodontists and dentists work to improve your oral health, they serve different roles. Dentists cover a broad range of oral health issues, including hygiene, tooth and gum care, and minor tooth repairs. Orthodontists, on the other hand, specialize in the alignment of teeth and jaws.

After completing dental school, orthodontists undergo an additional 2-3 years of specialized training focused solely on orthodontic issues. This makes them uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat problems related to the alignment of your teeth and jaws. When it comes to teeth straightening procedures like braces or Invisalign, an orthodontist's extensive training ensures that you'll receive the best care possible, tailored to your specific needs.

The Multifaceted Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontic treatment offers a wide array of benefits that go beyond just straightening your teeth.

Physical Benefits: Properly aligned teeth contribute to a balanced bite, reducing strain on your jaw and the risk of future dental issues. They're also easier to clean, which can reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease.

Mental Benefits: A straight smile can significantly boost your self-confidence. Many patients report feeling less self-conscious and more willing to show off their smile after completing their treatment.

Personal Benefits: Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you. A radiant, well-aligned smile can make a great first impression, whether you're going on a date or meeting someone for the first time.

Social Benefits: Feeling confident about your smile can improve your social interactions. You'll be more inclined to smile freely, laugh, and engage in conversations without feeling self-conscious about your teeth.

Professional Benefits: Believe it or not, a great smile can even advance your career. A confident smile during a job interview can leave a lasting impression, and good oral health can reduce time off needed for dental procedures.

In short, orthodontic treatment is not just an investment in your smile; it's an investment in your overall well-being and success.
